The label chosen for our oil bottle represent an old 10 italian Lira coin that was in use since the 1946.
The coin has an olive branch printed on as a symbol of peace, renewal and fertility for us italians nowdays as already for the ancient Greeks.
In the Greek mithology in was Goddess Athena that started the olive culture and teached the Athenians the art of cultivating this precious plant.
The myth says that Athena and Poseidon, god of sea, challenged each other for Athen possession.
They both had to donate something of great value to the city.
Poseidon hit a rock with his trident and a salt water source came out of the ground.
Athena hit her foot on the ground and the first olive tree came out from the soil.
Athena, with her gift, won the challenge and took possession of the city, to which was given the name Athen.
That is why on another old italian coin, the 100 Lire, we find not only the olive branch print, but also the Athena figure holding it.
